Sunday Survey: October 30th, 2011

01 Mood: It's been alright lately. The days where I feel like I'm going to plotz in the middle of the hall have decreased ever since I went back to Clean Care for my contacts. For anyone who don't know what Clean Care is, it's a brand that provides a contact case that looks like strange alien abduction tool. You fill it to the brim with a fizzy clear liquid and they feel really fresh and moisturized in the mornings. Now that I can see where I'm walking (might explain why I'm always so clumsy and spazzy), my headaches have been greatly reduced.

Last movie you watched: I watched Real Steel with my friend Hadi on Sunday. I went in with absolutely no expectations (when a plot revolves around robot boxing, that's really the best way to go into it) and was actually pretty impressed with the movie. It was extremely entertaining and the kids in there loved it. Hugh Jackson is still great at the "I am a tortured, masculine soul that needs redemption" image but Dakota Goyo was the best part of the movie. What an adorable kid.

03 What I’m watching: I haven't started any new TV shows (although if anyone has any suggestions, I'm always open). I'm just keeping up with The Walking Dead, The Mentalist and Modern Family. I'm also trying to make my way through Death Note. I do like it but I keep forgetting to watch it. The plotline is much better than my vintage Anime loves (Sailor Moon and Cardcaptor Sakura) except I don't covet anyone's hairstyle yet :p

04 Best thing about this weekend: I got to meet up with a few friends that I haven't seen in ages. I highly enjoy the company of people who take my fear of premature eye aging and schizophrenic eye crease sizes with a grain of humorous salt.

05 What makeup are you wearing today:

Face: Benefit's Boi-ing concealer where I need it
Eyes: Stila's Kitten cream shadow on lid and inner corners, Lorac's Serenity in the outer creases, Physician's Formula liquid eye liner in Brown and Lancome's Definicils mascara
Cheeks: Mac Blushcreme in ladyblush
Lips: Korres lip butter in Pomegranate

I'm actually wearing eye make-up now. I really enjoy putting it on in the morning. All the colors I'm using are very neutral so it's not a huge difference but I like the definition they give.

06 What skincare am I using today:

Morning: Cetaphil gentle skin cleanser, Neostrata Daytime Smoothing lotion with sPF 15.

Night:
Makeup Remover: Origins Mega Mushroom cleanser, Bioderma Crealine on chin
Cleanser: Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser
Toner: Origins Mega Mushroom Toner
Moisturizer: Origins Mega Mushroom Serum under Origins Mega Mushroom Moisturizer. Neostrata Daytime smoothing lotion on chin
Lip balm: Lush lipscrub followed by Eucerin's Aquaphor.

Oh yes, I know. My skincare routine has changed dramatically in the past week and a half. If it's still good by December, I shall write a massively long review that will annoy any uninterested party.

07 What am I wearing today:

Gray Gap jeans, a white H&M top with slightly poofy sleeves, H&M Men ring trio necklace (Yes, I just made that name up. Yes, it sounds awesome), Marc by Marc Jacobs skull watch.

08 What am I reading: The Help by Kathryn Stockett and The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. I'm liking both. I just started The Help but I'm almost done The Hunger Games. It's quite well-written, especially if you take into consideration that it's a "young adult" book (The YA genre have gotten a bad reputation ever since Twilight came out. God help us all). The writing style is very straightforward, which I enjoy for the most part. It does come off awkward at the end when there are ~ feelings ~ involved but it was an enjoyable read.

I'm also looking forward to the movie. Back off, I love Jennifer Lawrence.

09 Makeup Lust: This new affection for eye make-up is going to cost me. I want Lancome's Doll Lashes and the Urban Decay Naked Palette.

10. Listening to: Michael Buble's It's Time. I've really been liking his voice lately. Home is such a modern classic.

11. Clothing Lust: I'm hunting for a military style winter coat. My mom was originally going to get me the Calvin Klein military jacket but it only reached my waist and I would like a longer jacket to save me from the Canadian winds.

12 Haircare Lust: None

13 Skincare Lust: None

14 Current obsessions: Lip balms. I'm getting very dry lips when its cold. Aquaphor is great but I just wish it came in a compact form.

15 Aim for this week: Keeping depression at bay and attending all my classes (okay, if not all. At least 90% of them)

The one where Angela thinks someone is out to kill her

So I'm home for the weekend, which makes me terrifically happy. My appreciation for Real Food and Minimally Polluted Air grows exponentially with every visit. I've also latched myself to every Starbucks in the vicinity like some kind of a foul fungi.

Anyway, I decided to go to Erin Mills Town Center this morning to look around for a few things (sweaters, scarfs, etc. Any barrier from Canadian winter is appreciated) before meeting my lovely friend Nida at Indigo's.

8 hours, a bag of veggie chips, a cup of Strawberry gelato and a jumbo box of discounted end-of day sushi later, I came back home to a front door that was half opened.

Hmmm, okay.

I presumed my dad had came home early from Ping Pong practice (yes, I said what I said) and left the door open for me. So I step into the house and starting calling for my dad. When there was no response inside the house, I check the garden, the tool shed and the garage. All I found was the neighborhood cat, an empty garage, a rock that I gracefully tripped over and a rabbit speeding across the lawn.

Now Mean World syndrome has taught me that in this type of situation, there might possibly be someone hiding in your home with pointy objects, lots of rope and a plot to kidnap you for ransom. What you must do is call a Superhero Protagonist and await rescue while several minorities meet their doom within the first 10 pages of the script.

I don't have a Super hero protagonist so I called The Boy, who is basically the next best thing :p. After I am calmed and reassured that I am not going to be killed anytime soon, I hang up and call my dad repeatedly to see if he's around the neighborhood.

The conversation goes:

Me: Hey dad. Where are you?
Dad: I am at ping pong practice. I have a tournament next week. My swing is getting much better!
Me -_- : So you didn't come home?
Dad: No. Why?
Me: Because the door is open
Dad: Really? I locked it
Me O_O (omgsdlkfjasklfjlsdfjklKEYSMASH!!!!!ONEONEONE): Are you sure?
Dad: Yes, of course. I locked it.
Me: Oh. Well, that's freaky because the door is open
Dad: Hmmm......okay, go in and check if anything is missing

(The delusion that I am a highly beloved only child has now been shattered)

Me: What if someone kidnaps me?
Dad: That's okay. I guess I'll have to pay the ransom then
Me: Thanks, Dad.
Dad: No problem!

So I call the Boy back, step into the house, grab a heavy object (an umbrella for good whacking) and proceed to inspect the closets, the area behind all the doors and any plausible hiding place that can hide an average-sized human being.

5 minutes after my detailed search, my dad calls me back:

"Oh wait. I forget. I was in hurry so I don't think I locked the door properly. Hahahaha, never mind"

-_-

Terrific. Now I'm barricaded in my room doing my Public Relations assignment.

Impromptu Toronto shopping trip

So I got bored on Sunday and decided to go on a quick shopping trip in downtown Toronto. Minus the horrendous traffic (I will never stop harping on this because cars should be flying by now) on the way back, it was terrifically fun and the weather didn't attempt to drown me.

I spent two hours running around the Eaton's center consulting a carefully written shopping list and praying that I wouldn't buy something completely over my budget. If you do read my blog, I did mention some of these things on my weekend surveys (here and here) so I'm quite happy to acquire them!

Sephora
1. Tokidoki Siberia Blush Brush

imagebam.com imagebam.com imagebam.com imagebam.com

I've wanted this for a while now because the reviews have been so good (it's also adorable to boot, not sure if you've noticed :p) and I've been looking for an angled blush brush for ages. I was using a Mac #168 for powder blushes but to be honest, Mac brush hairs often irritate my skin so I don't use them as much anymore.

This was sold out at every Sephora I went to and they stock it so infrequently that I was ecstatic when I saw it on the shelf. I did keep it to myself because jumping up and down with Anime tears cavorting down my cheeks didn't seem quite feasible.

I also love the fact that the edge of the brush is tinted pink, it really satisfies my girl senses! ^_^

2. Bobbi Brown Pot Rouge in Powder Pink

imagebam.com imagebam.com imagebam.com

I saw this in Lisa Eldridge's "No make-up make-up" tutorial a while back and thought it was the prettiest, natural cheek color. It reminds me of my Mac Blushcreme in Ladyblush but the texture is softer and more blendable. The finish is a bit more matte while Ladyblush veers on the "glowier" side. I think I'll test it out in school lighting next week.

Oh excitement abound.

Also, I love the packaging. Elegant but durable!

Lush
3. Full of Grace Serum

imagebam.com imagebam.com imagebam.com

Lush always has some interesting products (I still think their toothy tabs are a bit of a miss). Their serum Full of Grace is actually in "soap" form. To use it, you just have to pour a few drops of hot water over the surface and swipe it over your fingers. I did have one of these last year but it melted over time because I didn't keep it in a container.

I learned from my mistake so I bought a Lush can (it was $2.50) for the serum. I haven't used it yet but I did remember that it was very soothing and extremely moisturizing. I'm really preparing myself for the winter months ahead!

The Bay
4. Origins Mega Mushroom Kit

imagebam.com imagebam.com imagebam.com imagebam.com

This was quite expensive but I got an amazing deal on it so I've been left alone by the Budget Fairy for the time being. I originally used the Mega Mushroom face mask but I ran out on Saturday so I went to The Bay to get the full sized tube. However, they had this fantastic deal on the entire kit (which I've always wanted to try but was always too poor to) which included a good sized tube of the face mask.

So the kit includes: The Mega Mushroom advanced face serum, the Mega Mushroom soothing face cream, the Mega Mushroom face mask and the Mega Mushroom face cleanser.

So far I'm really liking it (minus the serum) but I like to do a full month or two before I fully admit to liking a skincare product so I'll definitely do a review if I'm still using it in a month! :)

I also went to Aerie (my future grown-up room shall look like Aerie) but I'm sure no one needs to see the contents of my underwear selection. :p

Weekly Collage

imagebam.com imagebam.com imagebam.com imagebam.com imagebam.com imagebam.com imagebam.com imagebam.comimagebam.com imagebam.com imagebam.com imagebam.com

- My good ol' Apple charger finally died out (I had it for 3 years). It was all very very sad but now I have a shiny new one. It's completely pristine but I predict 4 - 5 weeks before the wires start turning gray.

- I spent two solid afternoons in Second Cup studying for Public Relations. Out of the 8 hours I was there for, I probably studied a total of 3 hours. I still think I did quite well so fingers crossed.

- Ah, I am reading again. Granted, the only ebooks I have are Bridget Jones and Waiter Rant but it's a good start. I really need to learn how to torrent properly.

- I bought a little jewelry box for my H&M things from the Dollaaaa store (Asian haven). Now I get to stare at costume type jewelry and feel the itching gaze of that H&M owl pendent. I'm far too lazy to coordinate jewelry these days. I have a new affection for scarfs though.

- I went to Bean Bar with my friend Lavi last week. The soup of the day was chicken, veggies and rice in tomato soup with vodka. It was amazing. Their cornbread makes me *_*.
I also had a cobb salad, which was very fresh but lack of avocados made me slightly bitter.

- Random things I purchased from a Shoppers sale: Eco friendly highlighters, a Harajuku Girls notebook (Got it for $3) and a Harajuku Girls pencil case ($2). I deem them as economical purchases since I use these frequently.

- I cleaned my room! I always go through phases where I become Pig Pen from Charlie Brown but as soon as hell week is are over, I suddenly realize that I'm living in filth and spend hours cleaning. I will be pathologically clean until Hell Week 2.0.

- I went shopping this weekend! Shall do a separate blog post on shopping items later.

Sunday Survey: October 23rd, 2011

01 Mood: Relatively chipper. My hellish week is over and now I must vegetate my mind until the next hell week approaches. I am in conservation mode for the all-nighters I foresee in the future. I'm lazy for a cause, yo.

02 Last Movie I saw: Love Actually. I have no idea why I watch Christmas movies on repeat. My only conclusion is that in my past life, I was married to Santa Claus and may have possibly lived in the North Pole. Also, I had no clue that Mark from Love Actually is now Rick in The Walking Dead!

imagebam.com imagebam.com
If anyone has seen Love Actually, you'll know what I'm talking about but I still have affection for this scene even though it makes no logical sense and support unrealistic romantic aspirations. :p

/end mini rant.

03 What I’m watching: The Walking Dead. I mean, yes it gave me slight paranoia when I watched 4 hours of it on Saturday (woke up in the middle of night thinking I heard weird growling noises. It turned out to be drunk students. Not sure which one is scarier) but god, what an entertaining zombie show. The make up is fantastic.

I'm also trying to find the comics in PDF online but alas, the copyright laws have thwarted me.

04 Best thing about this weekend: On Sunday, I suddenly got bored and decided that I wanted to go on a quick shopping trip in downtown Toronto. It was really fun until I took the bus back and got trapped on the highway for about an hour because of construction on the gardiner. At one point, we were at a higher elevation and all I could see was a sea of red brake lights. I honestly thought I was going to lose my mind.

At the end, I mellowed out and watched the guy in front of me play Angry Birds on his Ipad.

05 What makeup are you wearing today:

Boi-ing concealer, Mac blush creme in Ladyblush and Korres lip butter in Pomegranate mixed with Nars in Niagra.

06 What skincare am I using today:

Morning: Cetaphil gentle skin cleanser, Neostrata Daytime Smoothing lotion with sPF 15.

Night:
Makeup Remover: Origins Mega Mushroom cleanser
Cleanser: Cetaphil
Moisturizer: Origins Mega Mushroom Moisturizer on face, Neostrata Daytime smoothing lotion on chin
Lip balm: Lush lipscrub followed by Eucerin's Aquaphor.

I'm trialing a different skincare routine since its getting colder. If it's still holding up in a month, I'll do an Origins review :)

07 What am I wearing today:

Black Gap jeans, Keds and a black top with lace bow that I bought from a Korean store 2 years back (I swear it looks better than it sounds).

08 What am I reading: Waiter Rant, I found the PDF and uploaded it onto my Ipad. Hallelujah, I'm reading again! Snarky literature and pdf hunting, you are my life.

09 Makeup Lust: Absolutely nothing. I bought my last few ones so I'm good :)

10. Listening to: Michael Buble's Let It Snow Album. I know it's sad that I pretend that its Christmas year round when the world only agrees with me one month out of twelve but you have no soul if you hate this song.

11. Clothing Lust: That same H&M bow sweater from last week. It has evaded me! Unfortunately, I couldn't find it at the H&M downtown. I'll have to go to Square One this weekend to get it.

12 Haircare Lust: None

13 Skincare Lust: Nada. I already got the Origins Mega mushroom kit I wanted on Sunday so I'm good for a while.

14 Current obsessions: Origins and Lush. My only issue with Lush is how horrendous that place can smell. The one in Eaton's is especially bad but the one in Square One is much better. The air quality is actually quite passable!

15 Aim for this week: Keeping depression at bay
